Saturday started off strong with two major calls that kept Mesilla Fire Department crews on their feet.
Gas Leak – Snow Road
Mesilla Fire responded to a gas leak caused by a line struck by an auger. Our crew quickly secured the scene and ensured public safety.
Swift Water Rescue – Rio Grande
Later that day, Mesilla Fire was dispatched to the Rio Grande for reports of three individuals trapped in the river. Our team assumed Incident Command and worked alongside Doña Ana Fire and Las Cruces Fire to bring everyone to safety. All three victims were successfully rescued with no injuries reported to the individuals or responders.
SAFETY REMINDERS
As summer kicks off and the Rio Grande opens up, please use caution around open water. Conditions can change quickly—stay alert and aware.
If emergency vehicles are blocking the roadway, do not attempt to drive around them. It puts both you and our crews in danger.
Please avoid approaching emergency scenes—unseen hazards like gas leaks, unstable ground, or fire may be present. Your safety is always our top priority.
Three people rescued from Rio Grande River
