Crews are still on the ground working hard to contain the fire. For their safety, please avoid the area and allow them to work.
An Update to the Pina Peak Fire as of 1005 a.m. We have dispatched 3 engines and 2 utility trucks to this wind driven lightning strike fire on the top slope of Pina Peak of the Organ Mountains Desert Peaks National Monument about 8 miles south of the city of Hatch in Dona Ana County. Residents and visitors in the Hatch Valley and Las Uvas Mountains areas should expect to see and smell smoke over the coming days. For your safety and the safety of emergency personnel, please avoid the area to allow crews to work.
A wildfire was reported yesterday afternoon at Pina Peak, believed to have been ignited by a lightning strike. The fire is located within the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument.
