Bunch tallies two birdies in last six holes to sit four strokes off the lead.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – NM State women’s golfer Emma Bunch kicked off competition at the NCAA Lexington Regional on Monday morning from Keen Trace Golf Club. In the opening round, Bunch recorded a 72 (E) and ended the day in a tie for 14th place among the 66-woman field. Through 18 holes, Bunch finds herself just four strokes off the lead which is held by Florida State’s Mirabel Ting (-4).

In the first round, Bunch posted three birdies, including two across her final six holes to come into the clubhouse on a high note. At even par, Bunch is also tied with Miami’s Olivia Grønborg, Louisville’s Thienna Huynh, Western Kentucky’s Catie Craig and Georgia Southern’s Mary Miller.
With her performance, Bunch came in well under the average score for the day which finished at 75.09 across 66 rounds. On the day, Bunch finished as one of only two players in the field to birdie the 13th hole, a 360-yard par 4.
Bunch completed her first round at two-under on the course’s par 5s to finish as one of 11 players in the field to shoot two-under or better on the par 5s. She was also one of 31 players to play the course’s four par 3s at even par or better. Her three birdies also ranked tied for 11th most among the field.
On Tuesday, Bunch will continue her week in Lexington as she tees off at 7:50 a.m. MT for the second straight day. In the second round, Bunch will play alongside Kentucky’s Marta Lopez and Indiana’s Caroline Smith who each sit at two-over entering the second day.
