NM State Softball will make the 40-mile trip south to the Helen of Troy Softball Complex for a battle with UTEP as both teams hit the midway point of the CUSA season.

Strong pitching, timely hitting and strong defense helped the Aggies improve to 15-13 overall and 3-3 in Conference USA play on the season while handing the Patriots (18-9, 4-2 CUSA) their fourth road loss of the year.

NM State ultimately recorded a total score of 899 (+35) in the tournament which was won by No. 9 Arizona State with a score of 828 (-36).

Much like Saturday, the UTEP transfer went the distance and shut out Sam Houston as Aragon finished the game with six strikeouts and no walks allowed. 

Despite matching their highest run output of the season, the Aggies couldn’t contain DBU’s offensive firepower, falling by a final score of 16-13 after the Patriots plated 10 runs over the final three innings.

Despite strong efforts from multiple players, NM State couldn’t overcome Liberty’s momentum.

The UTEP transfer threw a career-high nine strikeouts across six innings of shutout softball in what was her seventh victory of the season.

NM State kept pace early, adding runs in the second and third innings to maintain a 4-3 advantage heading into the fourth.

For the third time in the past three contests, Desirae Spearman tossed a complete game, earning her ninth win of the season.

Friday will mark the 14th all-time meeting between the Aggies and Patriots and will be the second time the two programs face off as conference opponents.
