Las Cruces Police Department Chief Jeremy Story spoke at a news conference Nov. 15, 2024, to provide an update on the officer-involved shooting that occurred earlier in the week on the 1300 block of S. Espina.

The incident occurred about 10:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11. An LCPD officer made contact with 50-year-old Danny Garcia De Leon. The incident resulted in an officer firing at least one round and the man being shot at least once. Officers arrested Garcia De Leon, who was released from custody on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

The news conference, including video from the Nov. 11 incident, was posted to the City of Las Cruces YouTube channel (Viewer Discretion Advised):

The investigation, being conducted by the Officer-involved Incident Task Force, is ongoing. The task force includes investigators from New Mexico State Police, the Las Cruces Police Department, Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State University Police.
