The City of Las Cruces will conduct a public opinion poll between now and May 10 to assess community support for a proposed Gross Receipts Tax (GRT) increase. The survey will utilize both telephone and text-to-web formats, focusing on registered voters in Las Cruces. If you receive a phone call or text message, we encourage residents to participate and share their thoughts.

The City is looking to consider options to set Las Cruces up for future success and may recommend doing so with a bump in the local portion of the GRT. This increase would equate to about $.56 per $100 spent on certain goods and services. Currently there is no GRT collected on groceries or medicine in New Mexico.
The City could generate up to $20 million dollars a year:
- By ordinance about $9 million/year – (0.2375%)
- Referendum an additional $11 million/year – (0.3250%)
