Martin Luther King Jr. Day Closures
In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, most City of Las Cruces offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 20, 2025. However, all emergency services, including police and fire will operate as usual.
City offices and facilities closed Monday, Jan. 20, 2025, include:
- A Fielder Memorial Safe Haven
- City Hall
- East Mesa Recreation Center
- Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center
- Youth Development & Diversion Learning Center
- Castaneda Parks & Recreation Administration Offices
- KLCB
- Las Cruces Museum System, including Branigan Cultural Center, the Museum of Art, Museum of Nature and Science, and the Railroad Museum
- Las Cruces Public Libraries, including Thomas Branigan Memorial Library and the branch library at Sage Café
- Rio Grande Theatre
- All Senior Programs facilities and services
- South Central Solid Waste Authority administrative offices
- Visit Las Cruces
Operating, or open, with hours, includes:
- The Las Cruces Natatorium, 1401 E. Hadley Ave., will be open from 7:30 a.m. to noon Monday, Jan. 20, 2025
- Las Cruces Regional Aquatic Center, 1401 E. Hadley Ave., will be open from 7:30 a.m. to noon Monday, Jan. 20, 2025
- Meerscheidt Recreation Center, 1600 E. Hadley Ave., will be open from 1 – 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2025
- Solid waste collection will occur Monday, Jan. 20, 2025, for residential and commercial customers who are scheduled for service that day
- The Foothills Landfill, 555 S. Sonoma Ranch Boulevard, will be open with normal business hours Monday, Jan. 20, 2025
- RoadRUNNER Transit and Dial-A-Ride will operate with regular service levels from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2025
- Curbside recycling service will be provided to those who are scheduled to have their recycling collected Monday, Jan. 20, 2025
- The South Central Solid Waste Transfer Station, 2865 W. Amador Ave., the Corralitos Landfill, and Doña Ana County collection locations will operate as usual
County will observe MLK Day
Doña Ana County – Doña Ana County’s administrative offices will close Monday Jan. 20 to observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday observed on the third Monday of January to honor his life and legacy. Dr. King inspired and created change as the chief spokesperson for nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement.
Emergency services will not be affected and regular business hours for administrative offices will resume at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21.

NMDOH Helpline available during the holiday weekend
SANTA FE — State public health offices and administrative offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
All New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) offices will reopen as regularly scheduled the following Tuesday, Jan. 21.
The NMDOH Helpline, 1-833-SWNURSE (1-833-796-8773) will be available during regular business hours through the holiday weekend: Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Monday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Helpline is staffed by nurses for health questions, health care connections and provider support.
