Hanway has nearly 30 years of experience in the transportation industry and a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He joined the City of Las Cruces in 2010 as a Bus Operator. He was proted to Route Supervisor in 2014, followed by a quick advancement to Transit Manager in 2015. He also served as the Interim Fleet Administrator for several months before returning to the Transit department.

Throughout his tenure, Hanway has been instrumental in modernizing the City’s transit system. In 2017, he began researching and advocating for the introduction of electric buses to the City of Las Cruces. His efforts played a key role in securing a significant grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration, enabling the City to acquire five electric buses for its fleet in 2024, and six electric buses in 2025. This initiative also contributed to the development of the City’s new Transit Facility, which opened in March 2025.

Hanway’s commitment to innovation and sustainable transportation continues to drive the future of transit services in Las Cruces.
