Pending state legislation that affected property tax exemptions for veterans caused the notifications to be mailed a month later this year to all property owners.

Doña Ana County – Notices of Value will be mailed to property owners May 1 this year. Throughout the state, county assessors are generally required to mail them around April 1. However, pending state legislation that affected property tax exemptions for veterans caused the notifications to be mailed a month later this year to all property owners.

The protest deadline this year is June 2, and protests and other types of reporting will not be accepted after that date. The New Mexico property tax code enables residents to dispute their valuation notice or update their status to qualify for head of household, veteran’s, charitable or educational exemptions.

Property owners with questions about the protest or status change process can contact the County Assessor’s Office during regular business hours at the Government Center, 845 N. Motel Blvd.

For residents outside the Las Cruces area, staff members will be available to answer questions at the following offsite locations:

  • Follow the steps on the screen
