Deceased man found in river

On Sunday June 16 at approximately 8:12 p.m. Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch received a call of a possible drowning involving one adult and two children. This call was initially sent to the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office as it was reported to be in the vicinity of the river area, at 2215 Run Along Road. At approximately 8:26 p.m., arriving deputies were informed that the children were safe, but an adult male was missing.  After a brief visual search of the area, the State Police Search and Rescue Dive Team was contacted at approximately 8:28 p.m. for assistance.   All search and rescue operations in and on state property are conducted by that agency.

Today, June 17 at approximately 1:26 p.m., Hector Barraza, 59, was found in the river, deceased. The Office of Medical Investigations has taken the lead in this ongoing incident, but no foul play is suspected.
