LYNCHBURG, Va. – Traveling to the Eastern time zone for the first time this season, NM State suited up for day one of competition at the 2025 CUSA Indoor Track & Field Championship, hosted by Liberty University. A long day of action ended on a high note as the Distance Medley Team put together a school record performance. In preliminary action, Aliyah Logan and Amanda Radava paved the way, posting top-two finishes and advancing to finals on Saturday.
Track Headlines
Opening the day on the track, Amanda Radava posted a solid performance in the mile, taking the top spot in her heat and second overall with a time of 4:55.12 seconds in her CUSA Championship debut. Along with the mile, Radava will compete in the 3000m on Saturday.
Putting together a string of impressive and consistent performances all season, Aliyah Logan did no different on Friday in the 60m hurdles – taking first overall in preliminary competition with a time of 8.25 and advancing to Saturday’s final.
The 400m hosted the largest amount of NM State student-athletes with five competing, including Sahara Tasker and Jhana Downie – the duo advancing to Saturday’s finals with times of 54.92 and 55.27, respectively. Tasker’s time represented a new personal best, moving up to fourth in program history – just ahead of teammate Mickaliliah Vassell, who posted a time of 55.36 on the afternoon. Fellow senior Jahnya Hill crossed the line with a mark of 56.33.
In the 60m dash, Sierra Brewer just missed out on tallying a personal best, finishing with a time of 7.56 seconds, while Marlee Cavitt posted a mark of 7.63.
Marlene Mosqueda took to the 800m for her first of two competitions on the day, finishing with a time of 2:13.67 – just short of a new personal best for the Deming, N.M., native.
Returning to the track for the 200m, Sierra Brewer advanced to Saturday’s final with a personal best time of 24.12. Jaylah McDonnell (24.35) and Marlee Cavitt (24.57) finished just behind Brewer to close their weekend of competition.
The 5000m proved to be a successful event for the Crimson & White, with Jordan Torres (17:17.76), Khloi Bird (17:33.50) and Kayla O’Connell (17:49.28) tallying personal bests on the day.
Closing the day in triumphant fashion, the distance medley relay team of Angela Korte, Breanna Moss, Marlene Mosqueda and Nia Allison posted a time of 11:50.17 – a new school record. With this result, the quartet finished fifth overall, adding four points to the Aggies’ total.
Field Headlines
Breanna Moss opened the weekend of competition strong for the Aggies, taking part in the pentathlon for the first time in her NM State career – and the first student-athlete to compete in the event for the Aggies since 2020. Moss recorded a personal best of 8.64 seconds in the 60m hurdles – the ninth-fastest mark in program history.
In the weight throw Alesha Lane paced the Crimson & White, advancing to finals with a best mark of 18.48m (60-7.50″). This mark would hold through finals where Lane would finish fourth overall – her best finish in a championship setting while putting up five points for the Aggies.
Lane, along with Rebecca Green and Kamryn Cadle will return for action in the shot put on Saturday.
The long jump proved eventful for both Aggies competing in the event – Cameron Hodges and Jaylah McDonnell. In the 2024 edition of the CUSA Championship, Hodges tallied a personal best; repeating the process at the 2025 CUSA Championship with a best distance of 5.75m (18-10.25″). With this mark, Hodges finished eighth overall adding to NM State’s point total, while also moving up to eighth all-time in the program record book.
Alongside Hodges, freshman Jaylah McDonnell tallied a personal best with a mark of 5.45m (17-10.50″).
