Each year, New Mexico Counties and the State Auditor recognize counties that prove their dedication to ethical financial practices, safeguarding public assets

Doña Ana County – Doña Ana County will receive the Fiscal Year 23 County Audit & Accountability Award for large counties at noon, Thursday, Jan. 23 during the 2025 closing session of the New Mexico Counties Legislative Conference, by State Auditor Joseph Maestas.
Each year, New Mexico Counties and the State Auditor recognize counties that prove their dedication to ethical financial practices, safeguarding public assets. The criteria for selected winners includes outstanding work on audits, submitting them on time and having sustained excellence with high audit opinions.
“Earning these awards takes many hours of dedication from our Finance staff, and a rigorous process that every department must follow, each fiscal year,” Director of Financial Services Asma Dawood said.
Doña Ana is one of three large counties among the twelve New Mexico Counties selected for recognition.
This is the 10th award Doña Ana County wins since 2011, when the New Mexico State Auditor’s Office began the awards practice. They include six Accountability Awards for Large County Audit in 2011, 2016, 2017, 2021, 2022, and 2023; the Large County Special Mention in 2012 and 2014; and the Continued Excellence Award for 2018 and 2019.

“These awards show that Doña Ana County is fiscally responsible and accounts for taxpayers’ money responsibly and aligned with state laws and County ordinances,” Dawood said. “We accept these award with pride and representing the whole Finance team and our County colleagues, who support our meticulous process to help safeguard public funds.”
