The New Blue UVA Batten Fellowship is a chance to be part of a transformative journey, working alongside forward-thinking officers and dedicated community stakeholders to build trust and drive meaningful change.
Basically, New Blue is a national incubator for police and community collaboration.
They partner forward-thinking police with community organizers. Officers and organizers become collaborative teams, positioning them as equals while they explore local opportunities to build a better criminal justice system.
They incubate their ideas. Fellows join a multiple-month program to identify police practices that undermine community trust. They create solutions to these challenges and work with our research team to create data-driven systemic change.
They scale the most promising solutions. Fellows present their solutions to investors, partners, policymakers, and experts in the field. The best ideas receive funding, resources, and ongoing support.
The six-month long program, starting in June 2025, will provide valuable data-driven insights and access to research teams that can help transform the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office. This fellowship is supported through grant funding and will introduce innovative ideas to address the most pressing issues in policing today.
