Along the way you can explore the ruins of three major historic sites; Butterfield stagecoach stop and livery station, Van Patton Mountain camp, and Boyd’s Sanatorium. It’s not uncommon to encounter mule deer or oryx on this trail, keep your distance and respect the wildlife.

Know before you go: Accessible bathrooms and trash bins are located in the parking lot and there are 12 picnic tables for visitors to use. Dogs are not allowed on this trail. Bring plenty of water and sun protection and, as always, Practice Leave No Trace ethics. There is a small fee per vehicle. For rates and more information, please visit BLM’s website.
