Ethan Klose’s Top-10 Finish Highlights Fifth-Place Finish at the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Aggie men’s golf team turned in yet another strong finish as they placed fifth among a deep field at the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate hosted by The University of Arizona at Tucson Country Club.

NM State submitted a combined score of 878 (+14) to end the week four strokes ahead of No. 22 Mississippi State. Host and 25th-ranked Arizona clinched the team title with a score of 867 (+3) to come in just one stroke ahead of No. 29 Long Beach State (868, +4) and three strokes ahead of No. 10 Utah (870, +6).

Senior Ethan Klose paced the Aggies with a 54-hole score of 215 (-1) to finish the event in a tie for sixth place. Meanwhile, both Alexandre Bauduin (220, +4) and Aidan Thomas (222, +6) each secured top-25 placements as Bauduin finished in a tie for 17th while Thomas ended the week in a tie for 21st. The top spot in the tournament belonged to Utah’s Brandon Robison who shot even par on Tuesday to finish at 211 (-5) for the tournament, giving him a one stroke clearance over UTEP’s Max Schliesing.

For the Aggies, Javier Delgadillo posted a final score of 226 (+10) and placed in a tie for 36th, Kostka Horno, who competed this week as an individual, turned in a 228 (+12) to finish tied for 44thand Mateo Payan placed 58th (232, +16).

NUMBERS OF NOTE

  • With a T6 finish, Ethan Klose has now logged top 10 finishes in two of his previous three starts after earning the individual title at the Border Olympics last month.
  • This also marks back-to-back top-20 finishes for Alexandre Bauduin who placed in a tie for 10th last week at the GCU Invitational.
  • Aidan Thomas has now finished inside the top 25 in five of the Aggies’ seven tournaments this season, including each of the last three.
  • The average score this week at Tucson Country Club was 75.34.
  • As a team, the Aggies were the second best squad in the field on the par 4s as they posted an average score of 4.13 to come in only behind Long Beach State. This was driven by the averages of Ethan Klose and Aidan Thomas who each finished with an average of 3.97 which ranked tied for second among the field.
  • Aidan Thomas’ eagle in the first round of action was one of just 15 eagles recorded on the week.
