SANTA FE – Tribal Leaders from Nations, Pueblos and Tribes met with Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, cabinet secretaries and state tribal liaisons at the annual State Tribal Leaders Summit on Tuesday.
Leaders discussed potential implications from proposed federal budget cuts to SNAP and Medicaid. The day also included discussions on economic development and the Indian Affairs Department, including capital outlay and tribal infrastructure funding.

“These gatherings are critical in addressing the mutual concerns between tribal and state leadership,” said Gov. Lujan Grisham. “I am honored to collaborate with tribal and Pueblo leaders to solve challenges and improve life for Native Americans and all New Mexicans across our state.”
Established in 2009 under the State Tribal Collaboration Act, the annual summit ensures tribal priorities are reflected in state policy. Convened by the New Mexico Indian Affairs Department, the summit aims to bolster relationships between sovereign tribal governments and the state of New Mexico.
“Under Gov. Lujan Grisham’s administration, there has been unparalleled support and investment in the Nations, Pueblos, Tribes and tribal communities in New Mexico,” said Indian Affairs Department Secretary Josett D. Monette. “The State Tribal Leaders Summit is a collective effort by state and tribal leaders to engage in these discussions, address on-going challenges and create solutions.”
