About 7 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2024, Las Cruces firefighters were dispatched to the report of smoke coming from an abandoned two-story house on the 4000 block of Tellbrook Road. First-arriving crews found the home to be totally engulfed in flames and heavy smoke.

Firefighters took a defensive approach and attacked the fire from multiple sides. The fire also extended to nearby powerlines and vegetation in the undeveloped area near the home.

The fire was brought under control about one hour after crews arrived.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is unknown.

After the fire was extinguished, crews learned the property is just outside of Las Cruces city limits in unincorporated Dona Ana County. The scene was turned over to Dona Ana Fire Rescue for investigation.
