Fire destroys a shed on east Madrid Avenue in Las Cruces

A mid-morning fire on Monday, April 8, 2024, destroyed a backyard shed on east Madrid Avenue.

Las Cruces Fire Department responded to the blaze, in the 800 block of Madrid Avenue, shortly after 10 a.m. Monday. Firefighters found a fully engulfed shed upon their arrival.
 
 The fire to the shed endangered a nearby residence, an LCFD report said. However, firefighters were able to quickly attack the fire and brought it under control within minutes.
 
 A person was found in a nearby abandoned residence and was escorted from that building. The cause of the fire continues to be investigated. No injuries were reported.
