LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Following a stellar week at home, true freshman Dijana Mazumdar has been named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Swimmer of the Week, the league announced Wednesday afternoon.
The Sydney, Australia, native helped the Aggies close the weekend with a pair of dual wins over WAC foes UT Rio Grande Valley and Northern Arizona on Saturday while also leading the Aggies to a win in a relay meet over UTRGV on Friday.
To open the weekend, Mazumdar anchored the 400 medley relay team which earned a first-place finish with a time of 3:56.28 – outpacing the field by more than three seconds. Later, she swam the third leg (100 free) on the winning 500 free relay team. This pair of swims helped the Aggies defeat UTRGV 69-31 in the relay meet.
On Saturday, the Aussie tallied individual wins in the 200 free, the 100 free and the 50 free while also swimming the second leg of the 400 free relay which took the top spot. With a time of 1:50.64 in the 200 free, Mazumdar set a new pool record at the NM State Swimming and Diving Complex. This time is also currently the fastest time in the 200 free by any WAC swimmer this season. With Mazumdar’s help, the 400 free relay also set a pool record and posted the fastest time in the WAC this season with a time of 3:23.81.
Mazumdar also turned in a time of 23.50 in the 50 free and a time of 50.93 in the 100 free to earn first-place finishes in both events against the Vaqueros and Lumberjacks. Both of these times are also among the three fastest times in the WAC this year as she now ranks second in the 100 free and third in the 50 free.
Mazumdar will return to action on Nov. 20 when the Aggie swimmers travel to Houston to compete in the Houston Invite.
