The City of Las Cruces will break ground Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024, on Fire Station 9, a $9.4 million project approved by voters in 2022 through a General Obligation Bond and intended to service the fast-growing neighborhoods north of Highway 70 on the City’s East Mesa.

Las Cruces Mayor Eric Enriquez, District 5 Councilor Becky Corran and Fire Chief Jason Smith will be three of the speakers during the groundbreaking.

Fire Station 9 has long been anticipated, and needed, in what’s widely considered the fastest-growing part of Las Cruces. Within just the last few years, hundreds of homes have been constructed north of Highway 70, off Sonoma Ranch Boulevard, and the business district between Sonoma Ranch and Rinconada Boulevard has seen rapid growth.

Construction of the 12,000 square foot Fire Station 9 will begin in September. Completion of the project is anticipated in early 2026.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be streamed on the City’s YouTube Channel and on Facebook.
