Initially, Monty was assigned as a dual-purpose working dog, trained in both apprehension and explosive detection. His versatile skills allowed him to assist in a wide range of operations, from apprehending suspects to searching for explosives in potentially dangerous environments. As the years went on and his expertise grew, Monty transitioned to a single-purpose role, focusing solely on explosive detection, where he became a highly skilled and reliable asset to the department. His dedication and work ethic made him an invaluable member of the team, and his efforts undoubtedly contributed to countless successful operations.

Throughout his service, Monty’s contributions went beyond just his specialized training. His loyalty, discipline, and tireless work ethic earned him the respect and admiration of his fellow officers and his handler, Officer Victor Flores.

Now that Monty is retiring from active duty, he will be placed in the care of Officer Flores, who will provide a loving and comfortable home for him during his retirement. Monty will enjoy his well-deserved rest in a home where he will be cared for and appreciated for all the hard work and sacrifices he made during his nine-year service to the Department of Public Safety/NMSP.
