Aggies sweep weekly CUSA basketball awards for first time in history.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Conference USA released their weekly awards this morning and have announced that the Aggies garnered both player of the week and freshman of the week. Molly Kaiser wins her third CUSA Player of the Week honor during her career in Las Cruces. Madi Gewirtz helps the Aggies earn CUSA Freshman of the Week for the first time in program history.

Kaiser combined for 55 points this week across both games against rival opponent New Mexico in the battle of I-25, helping NM State to sweep the Lobos for the first time since the 2015-16 season. In 20 free-throw attempts, she finished with 18 makes at the charity stripe for a 90% shooting rate from the line. Kaiser also tallied three steals, eight assists, and 11 rebounds in the weekend series against the Lobos.
 
Gewirtz has shot phenomenally well this week from field, going 3-for-8 behind the arc. She has a combined two-game stat line of 17 points, six steals, three rebounds and one assist. She earned a single-game high in steals coming off the floor with four in just the Aggies’ Sunday game alone.

The two Aggies will look to help spark the team to a third consecutive win against the Tarleton State Texans on the road in Stephenville, Texas. The matchup will be played on Monday at 10 a.m. MST. Fans can catch the Aggies’ road tilt on ESPN+.

DALLAS – NM State’s Molly Kaiser and Madi Gerwitz earned Conference USA Women’s Basketball weekly honors. The 2024-25 Players of the Week are voted on by the league’s sports information directors.

CUSA Player of the Week – Molly Kaiser, NM State– Gr. – Watauga, Texas
Kaiser had an outstanding week averaging 27.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game as she led the Aggies to sweep New Mexico in the battle of I-25. Kaiser posted 25 points and six rebounds on Friday, shooting 7-9 from the field in NM State’s first win over the Lobos. The graduate student guard then scored 30 points and grabbed five rebounds on Sunday. She is the only player in CUSA to have two 30-point games this season. Overall, Kaiser shot 55% (17-31) from the field, while adding eight assists and three steals.

CUSA Freshman of the Week – Madi Gerwitz, NM State – Gilbert, Ariz.
Gerwitz scored in double figures on Friday with 11 points in NM State’s 81-71 win over in-state rival New Mexico. The freshman guard shot 62% (5-8) from the field and tallied two rebounds and two steals. On Sunday, Gerwitz posted a career-high four steals and scored six points in 29 minutes of play for the Aggies.
