LAS CRUCES, NM – Prepare to step out of this world with the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra in March as the ensemble premieres two orchestral compositions during its Earth and Space concert.

The symphony’s 2024-2025 season continues this month with a concert jam-packed with pieces by contemporary composers, including the premiere of The Wind is Causing the Stars to Sway, a piece composed for LCSO by Star Wars composer Christian Kreigeskotte. Kreigeskotte wil also attend the premiere in person.
“Christian has his works performed all over the place. He’s worked everywhere, including Hollywood and even helped John Williams write some of the music for Star Wars,” LCSO Conductor Ming Luke says.
The symphony will also perform and record 3futures for Trumpet and Orchestra, composed by LCSO’s own principal trumpet and New Mexico State University applied trumpet professor, Jacob Dalager. The piece explores three climate crisis scenarios and took second prize at the
2022 Music International Grand Prix.
Pianist Heather Pinkham will travel from Amsterdam and step into the spotlight at Atkinson Recital Hall to perform her piano concerto, Nowhere and No-When, replicating the sounds NASA recorded from space. “It couldn’t be more exciting to have all these composers and these new works by the Las Cruces Symphony,” Luke says. “It’s going to be a spectacularly fun concert!”
