Six-year Aggie legend Lia Mosher will join the coaching staff ahead of the Fall 2024 season. The middle blocker spent over half a decade under the leadership of Head Coach Mike Jordan and will now sit alongside him as an assistant coach. Mosher is set to join former teammate Tatyana Battle on the Aggie staff, after Battle’s promotion to assistant coach back in February.
Mosher was a legend in the Crimson & White, playing 140 matches across 2017-2022. She won four regular-season championships and two WAC Tournament titles with the Aggies, advancing to the NCAA Tournament in 2018 and 2019. She earned four All-WAC awards, including two First Team selections, and still holds six top-10 records in NM State’s 50-year program history.
The Ruidoso native spent part of 2023 and 2024 playing professionally in Portugal. Now, she is set to take the fourth and final coaching spot on the Aggie bench, where she hopes to help her alma mater build on a strong first showing in Conference USA. The Aggies finished as the No. 2 seed in the regular season, and advanced to the CUSA Championship Game, but fell short at the hands of Western Kentucky. With 97.66% of its point production returning in addition to a newly bolstered 2024 roster, NM State has its sights set even higher ahead of what will be year two in the new league.
Lia Mosher, on being named NM State Assistant Coach: “I’m very happy to be here at NMSU. I look forward to being on the other side of things as a coach rather than a player, especially at the collegiate level. I know that I can learn so much from this staff, and being somewhere that already feels like home makes this transition easy. I feel very lucky to get to coach with my former coaches, and a former teammate. I also feel that I have learned so much from playing a few seasons overseas and I hope I can share some of that knowledge with the girls. Overall, I’m really excited to be here and be a part of what will be a great team this season.”
Head Coach Mike Jordan, on Mosher’s addition to the staff: “We’re excited to have Lia join us this fall. She’s a great person with a ton of energy and she has years of experience in our system, as well as pro experience at the middle hitter position. She will spend a lot of time working with our middles, and I’m looking forward to her joining our staff.”
