An early-morning fire critically injured a 42-year-old man and forced the rescue of two other occupants of a home on Cortez Drive in Las Cruces.

Shortly after midnight Thursday, April 11, Las Cruces firefighters were dispatched to a residential structure fire on the 7600 block of Cortez Drive. Upon arrival, fire crews observed flames and smoke near the rear of the home and quickly attacked the fire.
Firefighters located three occupants inside the burning home and quickly removed them. Fire personnel provided initial care on scene and transported one of the occupants, a 42-year-old man, to a local hospital. That individual was subsequently transported to a burn facility in Lubbock, Texas, for more advanced care. The status of his condition is not known at this time.
The two other victims of the fire, a man and woman, were provided care on scene and declined transportation to a hospital.
Firefighters successfully brought the fire under control within 15 minutes.
The cause of the fire and damage estimates have yet to be determined.
