A 35-year-old man was critically injured Tuesday morning in a structure fire on Parker Road in Las Cruces.

About 6 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, Las Cruces firefighters were dispatched to the report of a structure fire on the 1500 block of Parker Road. The first crew to arrive reported fire in an attached storage room and found a burn victim in the front yard.

Crews simultaneously began providing first aid to the victim while attacking the fire. The victim was in critical condition when he was transported to an area hospital. It’s anticipated he will be transported to a regional burn center in Lubbock, Texas, for advanced care.

Firefighters brought the fire under control within five minutes. A search of the structure determined it was clear of occupants.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Damage estimates have yet to be determined.
