The ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2024.
Speakers at the event include both City Council District 1 Representative, Cassie McClure and City Council District 3 Representative, Becki Graham. The path the mural is located along begins in District 1 and continues through District 3.
This project spans multiple years beginning in 2020 when KLCB and the Youth Conservation Corps collaborated to create a mural inside the Triviz/I-25 tunnel, which the Outlet Channel Trail passes through. KLCB received funding from YCC and the New Mexico Clean and Beautiful program to revive this project. KLCB kept most of the original artwork from 2020 and added a total of 12 new pieces on the inside. The City’s logo, the State’s logo and KLCB’s logo were updated to include the latest logos. The outside entrance was completely redone, to include local Las Cruces symbols, while the inside mural features state symbols.
This project was created by students involved in the After School, Weed and Seed, Teen Connection, and Youth Development and Diversion Programs, and members of the Las Cruces Police Department Community Outreach Unit along with others. Partners include the New Mexico Department of Transportation, City of Las Cruces Public Art, and New Mexico Tourism Department Clean and Beautiful Grant.
Please join us in formally presenting the mural to the public this Friday.
