New Mexico State Police Participate in C.A.R.E. Operation over Thanksgiving Weekend

Statewide, NM—During Thanksgiving weekend, the New Mexico State Police participated in the Combined Accident Reduction Effort (C.A.R.E.) operation, which was implemented across all roadways in the state. The initiative aims to enhance motorist safety and decrease the number of crashes by maintaining a strong law enforcement presence.

Due to the increased volume of traffic during the holiday, the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) enhanced patrol presence on roadways across all twelve State Police districts. This initiative took place during the busiest travel days of Thanksgiving weekend, specifically from Wednesday, November 27, 2024, to Sunday, December 1, 2024.

The operation led to State Police officers issuing more than 4,000 traffic citations, including 140 for failure to wear seat belts. Additionally, 22 arrests for impaired driving were made across the state. Officers also investigated 48 crashes, four of which involved alcohol. The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau issued 64 citations for commercial vehicles and conducted 71 commercial vehicle inspections.

The New Mexico State Police prioritizes motorist safety. Officers will continue to conduct holiday travel operations throughout the year. NMSP encourages the public to drive safely and follow all traffic laws while traveling on New Mexico’s roadways.
