As a partner with the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) the City of Las Cruces shares this information with residents and motorists.

NMDOT, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), will conduct an in-person public meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024, at Doña Ana Elementary School, 5551 Camino de Flores. The meeting is to discuss alternatives considered and recommendations for the Interstate 25 Safety and Capacity Study, from the Lohman Avenue interchange to the Doña Ana interchange.

The intent of the study is to improve safety, accommodate regional growth, and address deficiencies, such as pavement, drainage, lack of ADA facilities, roadway geometry, access control, and multi-modal connectivity. The public meeting will include a presentation of the study’s findings and a question-and-answer session.

After reviewing public and stakeholder comments, the study team will finalize recommendations and submit a report to the FHWA this summer. NMDOT will then develop plans for improvements, in phases, starting with the section of I-25 between the Lohman Interchange and the U.S. Highway 70 interchange. Construction of the first phase of improvements is anticipated to begin in late 2028.

For information, and to join the study’s mailing list, visit the study website, I25NM.com. For technical assistance, requests for hard copies, or other assistance, call John Taschek at (505) 980-0993.
