New Mexico State University’s Asian Pacific Islander Program invites students, faculty and staff to join a Lunar New Year celebration, featuring a special lunch, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, in the Corbett Center Student Union ballrooms.

Lunar New Year is a deeply significant celebration observed by many cultures across Asia. Each year is associated with one of the 12 zodiac animals and one of the five elements. This year marks the Year of the Snake – specifically the Wood Snake.
“Lunar New Year is a time for family, reflection and celebration,” said Yi Wu, president of the Chinese Student and Scholar Association at NMSU. “It marks a fresh beginning filled with hope, joy and prosperity.

As a symbol of happiness, hope and reunion, Lunar New Year offers the NMSU community an opportunity to come together, honor cultural traditions and reflect on the importance of family, friends and ancestry.
“We wish everyone a happy and prosperous Year of the Snake,” Wu said.
The event is free and open to all current students, faculty and staff at NMSU. It will include food and activities while supplies last.
