New Mexico State University Global Campus invites secondary physical education teachers to elevate their teaching methods by enrolling in the Youth on the Move microlearning course.
Scheduled to start Aug. 7, Youth on the Move approaches physical education through innovative, student-centered teaching strategies.
“This course is an opportunity for educators to transform their approach to physical education,” said Kim Oliver, NMSU professor of physical education pedagogy.
“We are committed to helping teachers inspire a lifelong engagement with physical activity among their students,” said NMSU professor Jackie Beth Shilcutt, who, along with Oliver, created the course.
The synchronous online course can accommodate up to 15 participants to ensure a personalized and interactive learning environment. This structure supports extensive interaction and tailored feedback, enhancing each physical education teacher’s overall professional development.
“Microlearning is an ideal approach for professional development because it allows for intense focus on specific areas of a subject without overwhelming the learners,” said Andrew Sedillo, director of microcredentials instructional design at NMSU Global Campus. “We designed Youth on the Move to integrate seamlessly into educators’ busy schedules while providing impactful learning experiences they can immediately apply in their teaching environments.”
Upon completion, participants receive a digital badge recognizing their newly acquired skills. Digital badges serve as digital proof of an individual’s competencies. They offer easy and instant verification for third parties, such as potential business partners, employers and recruiters who can gain a deeper understanding of a candidate’s abilities, knowledge and skills.
The course will be offered from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Dec. 4, and consists of 10 online synchronous sessions. Early bird pricing is $1,299 until May 1, and $1,499 until July 1.
