New Mexico State University’s LGBT+ Programs aims to build more campus community and visibility for LGBTQ+ Aggies and their allies during its annual Pride Season.

Each spring, LGBT+ Programs hosts Pride Season to celebrate the diversity of students, faculty and staff in the LGBTQ+ community and promote inclusivity in campus life through fun and educational activities.

“Pride Season is an integral part of NMSU’s campus culture that provides community and visibility for LGBT+ students, faculty and staff as well as education to allies,” said Lore Falls, a program coordinator for LGBT+ Programs. “Promoting LGBT+ culture, visibility and education is especially key in 2024, when we’re already looking at over 300 anti-LGBT+ bills being presented nationwide.”

The four-event 2024 Pride Season will get underway Feb. 17 at the women’s basketball against Western Kentucky University. A limited number of free Pride-themed T-shirts will be given to fans who attend the game at the Pan American Center. Tip-off is at 2 p.m. NMSU students must present a valid student ID for free admission.

Next month, LGBT+ Programs will team up with NMSU’s Asian and Pacific Islander Program to host the Justice and Revolutionary Thought Conference on the Las Cruces campus. The March 26 conference will bring together scholars from NMSU and other universities for presentations on a range of social justice topics. It will start at 2 p.m. in the Corbett Center Student Union auditorium. Follow @nmsu_lgbt on Instagram for registration information closer to the conference date.

On March 27, LGBT+ Programs will host a panel discussion to commemorate Transgender Day of Visibility. A panel of students, faculty and staff will lead a discussion about their experiences as transgender and nonbinary Aggies. The discussion will begin at 9 a.m. in Corbett Center Student Union’s east ballroom on the third floor.

“Transgender Day of Visibility is an important international event, and we’re very excited for transgender students, faculty and staff at NMSU to share their experiences and to promote visibility and equity at NMSU,” said Sophia Sangwanthong, director of LGBT+ Programs. “Our program will also present research findings on student experiences and present inclusive strategies to the NMSU community. LGBT+ Programs encourages all faculty, staff and students to attend this important informational event.”

The annual Pride Season Drag Show will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the Corbett Center Student Union outdoor stage. Eva Angelica Stratton, a performer from Phoenix, and Gabriella Galore, a performer from Michigan, will headline this year’s show, which will also feature local and regional talent, including numerous NMSU students. The show is free and open to the public.
