“First impressions are crucial, and how students present themselves through their attire can convey the right or wrong message when interacting with potential employers. We want all our students to secure the internships or jobs they desire, so we felt this was an excellent way to teach them what employers are looking for.”

“We have received significant feedback from our employer partners about the importance of preparing students for career fairs and networking events,” said Patricia Leyba, director of the Office of Experiential Learning. “First impressions are crucial, and how students present themselves through their attire can convey the right or wrong message when interacting with potential employers. We want all our students to secure the internships or jobs they desire, so we felt this was an excellent way to teach them what employers are looking for.”

When it comes to fashion in the workplace, students can bring their unique style and personality to their everyday professional outfits. By incorporating their personal flair into their attire, they can maintain a sense of individuality while still adhering to professional standards.

All the models featured in the event are NMSU students, showcasing outfits selected from NMSU’s Career Closet. The Career Closet, filled with donated professional attire, serves as a free resource for students preparing for career events. Located on the second floor of Corbett Center, just outside the Tutoring Center, and Gerald Thomas Hall, Room 295, the Career Closet is accessible to all students looking to enhance their professional appearance.

A new addition to the fashion show is the Student Panel: Career Fair 101, which will take place at 2:30 p.m. in the Aggie Lounge. During this panel, students will hear from their peers about how to navigate a career fair and gain valuable tips on employer networking. Both the fashion show and the panel aim to prepare students for the upcoming 40th annual Career Expo Fair and Engineering, Science and Technology Fair Sept. 17-18. The fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days at Corbett Center, third floor.
