The New Mexico State University Police Department will conduct a multi-agency critical incident response training and crisis management exercise on Thursday, Aug. 8 at the Branson Library on campus.
To avoid any confusion during the exercise, NMSU is notifying the public and campus community ahead of time. The exercise is closed to the general public.
The training exercise will focus on emergency response to a critical incident on campus and is being staged by NMSU Police in collaboration with other area first responders/law enforcement agencies. It will involve a simulation of the NMSU Police response plan and will help assure a coordinated, timely and effective response and recovery in the event of a major incident.
Students, faculty, staff and other community members are encouraged to reference the NMSU ARP 16.10 regarding emergency preparedness and response.
State and local agencies participating in the exercise include, but are limited to, NMSU Fire Department, Las Cruces Police, Mesilla Marshals, Dona Ana Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State Police.
Media Availability: Because of the sensitive nature of the activity, media presence will be limited during the exercise as it unfolds. Members of the media should enter the campus via the Stewart St. entrance and park at Stewart St. at Williams Avenue. Before approaching the area, please contact NMSU’s onsite media liaison, Tiffany Acosta at 575-642-2168.
At the conclusion of the exercise, NMSU Interim Police Chief Justin Dunivan will be available for interviews at 1 p.m. at the Joint Information Center located behind the NMSU Fire Department at 1510 Wells St.
