The New Mexico State University community, along with the greater Las Cruces community, will have a chance to welcome NMSU’s incoming president Valerio Ferme during a public reception next week.
The reception will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at the University Art Museum, 1308 E. University Avenue. Refreshments will be served. Parking will be available near the museum, Kent Hall and at the NMSU Bookstore.
“We are excited to host this opportunity for our community members to meet Dr. Ferme,” said NMSU Regent Chair Ammu Devasthali. “We are sure that under his leadership, NMSU will continue to be a positive community partner and make great achievements by working together.”
Ferme officially began his employment at NMSU Nov. 18 and will assume the role as university president Jan. 1, 2025. Currently, Ferme is meeting with stakeholders at the university’s campuses, agricultural science centers, cooperative extension offices and with others around the state of New Mexico. As part of the presidential transition, Mónica Torres will continue to serve as interim president through the end of 2024.
Ferme most recently served as executive vice president for Academic Affairs and Provost at the University of Cincinnati, where he championed student success via numerous access and retention investments.
