Today (April 14, 2025), as we have throughout the year, we’re remembering and continuing to mourn the passing of our forever brother, Marco Harrison Trujillo, a well-liked and respected first-year patrol officer who unexpectedly passed away on April 14, 2024.

Marco had a magnetic personality and radiant smile that lit up a room. He was from Albuquerque but made Las Cruces his home. After earning his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from New Mexico State University, he graduated from the Las Cruces Police Department’s 52nd Academy where he made new friends and became part of our larger family.

Though Marco served only one year as an officer, he served with pride and was exceptional in all that he did. He had a passion for his adopted community and built friendships throughout.

Sadly, on April 14, 2024, he succumbed to the pressures of life and left us brokenhearted.

Despite the progresses made over the years, in training and providing resources that emphasize the well-being of our personnel, law enforcement officers are still more likely to die by suicide than in the line of duty. Besides the stresses we all face in our day-to-day lives, police officers carry the weight and burdens of the profession. Each day we try our best to separate work from home, sorrow from joy, and sickness from health.

We continue to extend our condolences to Marco’s parents, Chris and Barbara Trujillo; his sister Madison and brothers Jaycob and Adam; his grandparents Bertha Trujillo and Timo and Miriam Harrison; and his many relatives and friends who cherished Marco.

Marco is no longer physically with us, but he remains in our hearts, thoughts and memories.
