LAREDO, Texas – NM State men’s golf returned to action on Monday morning in south Texas as they competed in the Border Olympics at the Laredo Country Club. After 36 holes of action, the Aggies are a combined eight-over and are in third place among the field of 16 teams, sitting just three strokes behind host Houston for the lead. NM State also sits ahead of Power Four program Michigan (+11) and fellow Conference USA foe Sam Houston (+20) after Monday’s rounds.

Individually, the Aggies have two inside the top five as both Aidan Thomas and Ethan Klose shot rounds of 70 (-1) in the opening round before both posted rounds of 71 (E) in the second round to end the day in a tie for fourth place. This makes NM State one of just two programs with two golfers tied for fourth or better as Louisiana also has two players near the top of the leaderboard.
After a breakout performance in his last outing, true freshman Mateo Payán is also inside the top 20 as he posted a pair of 73s to finish four over par across the first 36 holes in Texas. Meanwhile, Alexandre Bauduin (+7) is tied for 46th, Javier Delgadillo is tied for 54th and Max Chan who is competing as an individual this week is tied for 59th.
NUMBERS OF NOTE
- Including Chan, NM State posted 30 birdies across the first two rounds on Monday.
- As a team, the Aggies are five-over on par 3s for an average of 3.13 thus far – a mark that leads all teams in the field.

- Aidan Thomas’ eagle on the par-5 ninth hole during the second round is one of just six eagles in the tournament so far.
- Aidan Thomas and Ethan Klose are each one of just 16 players in the 84-man field with five or fewer bogeys through 36 holes.
The Aggies will return for the third and final round of the Border Olympics on Tuesday. The final round is scheduled to begin at 6:00 a.m. MST. Live scoring will be provided by Scoreboard at this link.
