Personal Bests, Third-Place Finish Highlight Day One in Albuquerque

Alesha Lane records personal best for second consecutive weekend in the weight throw.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Making their second-straight trip to Albuquerque, NM State competed on day one of the New Mexico Team Open, hosted by the University of New Mexico. Alesha Lane recorded the first and only top-3 finish on the day for the Crimson & White, while numerous Aggies posted personal bests and strong finishes.

Track Headlines
 
The 200m dash (unseeded) kicked off the afternoon on the track, with Marlee Cavitt recording the fastest time among Aggies, posting a mark of 24.39 seconds – a season best. Sierra Breweralso posted a season best, crossing with a time of 24.54. True freshman Jaylah McDonnell improved on her time posted at the Corky Classic, finishing with the third-fastest time for NM State (24.72).
 
The freshman trio of Trista CordovaMurrie Dodge and Alexandra Ordaz represented the Aggies in the 3000m run. Cordova paced NM State, taking second in heat two with a new personal best time of 10:55.88 – eclipsing her previous best time by more than 10 seconds. Murrie Dodge also tallied a personal best in the event, finishing with a mark of 11:07.28.
 
The lone entrant in the 400m (unseeded) for the Aggies, Breanna Moss ran a strong race, finishing second in her heat and fifth overall with a time of 57.07 – a lifetime best.
 
Closing the day of action on the track, Jhana Downie took part in the 200m invitational – competing with some of the best student-athletes in the country. Lining up in heat two, Downie crossed with a season-best mark of 24.05.
 
Field Headlines
 
Junior Alesha Lane continues to perform strongly for the Crimson & White, advancing to the weight throw finals with a best mark of 18.23m (59-9″) in prelims. One of nine student-athletes to advance, Lane finished 3rd overall with a best throw of 18.74m (61-5.75″) – a personal best and the fourth-best mark in NM State history.
 
Competing in the high jump for the Crimson & White, El Paso native Aileen Alvarado tallied a new personal best – posting a final progression of 1.61m (5-3.25″).
 
Cameron Hodges put together a consistent performance in the third and final flight of the long jump, posting a best distance of 5.45m (17-10.75″). Posting a personal best in the 200m, Jaylah McDonnell also impressed in the long jump, taking the top spot in flight one with a jump of 5.33m (17-6″). Competing indoors for the first time since 2023, Angelina Killings recorded a distance of 4.53m (14-10.50″).
