The man believed to be responsible for a fatal stabbing that occurred Saturday morning has been arrested and charged with murder.

William Clyde Turner, 51, is charged with one felony count of murder.

Las Cruces police and fire were notified of the stabbing shortly after 3:30 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2024, on the 800 block of Avenida de Mesilla.

The victim, a 30-year-old man, was found to have at least one stab wound to his back. He was initially transported to MountainView Regional Medical Center and then to University Medical Center of El Paso.

The victim, identified as Carlos Joseph Lakemper, succumbed to his injuries shortly before 10 a.m. at UMC.

A witness identified the suspect who was charged by police. He was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he is initially being held without bond.
