The person of interest arrived at the home, on the 900 block of Graham Street, early in the morning of Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, as the passenger of a dark-blue Cadillac. The driver of the Cadillac was 29-year-old Jose “Joey” Antonio Juarez III.

Investigators learned that Juarez and his passenger, the person of interest, got into some type of altercation with a 34-year-old man who was at the home. During the altercation at least one round was discharged, striking Juarez who succumbed to his injuries on scene.

The passenger, the person of interest, fled from the scene on foot. A surveillance camera captured images of him.

The 34-year-old man also left the home and went to MountainView Regional Medical Center with an injury that was not life-threatening.

Since they arrived at the home together, it’s presumed that Juarez and the person of interest were friends.

Anyone with information that can help identify the person of interest is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Las Cruces-Dona Ana County.
