The Jennifer Riordan Spark Kindness Sports Complex in Albuquerque is preparing for a quarterfinals match-up between the Centennial Hawks and Rio Rancho Rams on Thursday, May 15. The sports complex features five fields that can be adjusted to accommodate baseball, softball and little league teams, but Thursday it is all about the State High School Championships.

Centennial took the opening series with two straight wins against Rio Grande (16-6, 8-5), the first of which was a run-rule route.

The Lobos of Chaparral upset 4-seed Belen (15-5, 2-9, 12-11) in three games, advancing to the 4A quarterfinals where they will square off against Goddard. This game will also be played at the Jennifer Riordan Spark Kindness Sports Complex in Albuquerque.

Mesilla Valley Christian took a Bye this weekend, and will be facing 5-seed Loving in Albuquerque this Thursday.

Other local teams did not make it out of the first round. Las Cruces High School dropped two to top-seeded La Cueva (10-0 7-3), while Mayfield put the early scare to 4-seed Cleveland (7-9, 3-1, 7-3), only to drop the last two. Hatch was eliminated in two games against Santa Fe Indian (7-0, 8-7).
