Coombs and Vause
It has been a year of great competition between Organ Mountain’s Corbin Coombs and Rio Rancho’s Charlie Vause. What began in the open-path tracks of Cross Country competition has ultimately led to the UNM Track and Field Complex. For the entire school year, it has been impossible to separate Coombs and Vause.
Both Coombs and Vause have committed to major university programs: Vause to BYU and Coombs to Wake Forest.

Corbin Coombs took the medal in their first face off of this year’s state meet, breaking a meet record in the 5A Boys 3200 Meter Finals (8:50.22). Vause also broke the standing meet record, but finished just behind Coombs to take second place running the course in just under nine minutes.
Luke Matherly, Discus

Centennial High School is showing some muscle in this year’s meet, with Hawk thrower Luke Matherly taking the 5A Boys Discus Medal. Fellow Hawk, Omar Terrones took 3rd in the 5A Boys Long Jump.
There is still much more to come on Day 2, and live results can be found here.
