The 2025 NMAA State Track & Field Championships are in the books, and some performances will be written in more books than one. Ninety-two boys and sixty girls traveled north to Albuquerque to compete at the UNM Track and Field Complex, but only a handful returned with top medals.

Kaselle Davis of Las Cruces High School won the Individual Overall, netting three golds (High Jump 5-06.00, 200 M Dash 25.37, 400 M Dash 56.07). Davis was nosed out of first in the 100 M Dash with a career run by Faith Vine of Hobbs.

Kaselle has quietly amassed a healthy number of medals in her tenure at Las Cruces High School, and she has committed to attend Indiana University in the fall.

Davis is not alone in taking the top spot in New Mexico. Fellow Bulldawg, Sofia Herrera, tossed a bullseye when she hurled the javelin over 132 feet (132′ 6″, to be precise). Another local thrower, this one from Centennial, also took top spot. Hawk Anniston Lustig topped 40 ft in Shot Put–enough for best in New Mexico in 2025.

Boys Results

As team results go, the Organ Mountain Knights came close to a pinnacle performance, taking second overall. As a team, they won the Boys 1600 Sprint Medley (3:32.43), an event they had broken the New Mexico record in earlier in the season.

Individually, it the 2025 State Championship was as close to being the “Corbin Coombs” show as possible. Coombs shattered two state records (3200 M 8:50.22 and 800 M 150.33). His third gold medal came in the 1600 M. While he did not set a new record in this event… his record from 2024 in this event still stands. Coombs has run against Rio Rancho’s Charlie Vause all season, and in the final meet of their high school careers, Coombs outpaced Vause in every event, but the competition was fierce throughout the meet.

Fellow Knight, Ryan Harrington contributed to the team’s stellar performance, being the fastest in the 200 M Dash (22.03). Centennial’s Luke Matherly hurled the discus into gold medal range (149′ 7″).
