From Wikipedia: On March 6, 2024, after a jury deliberated for about two hours, Gutierrez-Reed was found guilty on the charge of involuntary manslaughter but acquitted of tampering with evidence. Almost immediately after the verdict was read, she was remanded into custody until her sentencing hearing set for April 15, 2024. On March 29, a judge denied a motion from her lawyers for a new trial. On April 15, 2024, Gutierrez-Reed was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
She is being held in the Western New Mexico Correctional Facility in Grants.
Cibola County, NM– On May 15, 2025, New Mexico State Police arrested a New Mexico Corrections Department Officer on multiple charges of Criminal Sexual Contact of female inmates after a lengthy investigation.

The investigation began on April 16, 2025, when the New Mexico State Police Uniform Bureau received information about alleged sexual assaults that occurred at the Western New Mexico Correctional Facility in Grants, NM. Multiple female inmates alleged that corrections officer Elijah Williams (21) sexually assaulted them.

During the investigation, New Mexico State Police revealed credible evidence suggesting Williams engaged in unlawful sexual contact with incarcerated women under his supervision at the facility. The alleged incidents occurred over a period of time, resulting in the inmates coming forward and making complaints.
Williams turned himself in to New Mexico State Police on May 15, 2025 and was booked into the Cibola County Detention Center without further incident. He is being charged with the following:
- 4 Counts of Criminal Sexual Contact
- 1 Count of Battery
“We acted immediately, terminating the individual and notifying State Police,” said New Mexico Corrections Department Cabinet Secretary Alisha Tafoya Lucero. “We have zero tolerance for any misconduct, and any officer or staff member who engages in misconduct will be fully removed and referred for criminal prosecution to the fullest extent.”
This incident remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police.
