The City of Las Cruces announces the selection of Joaquin Murillo as the new Deputy Director of Wastewater for Las Cruces Utilities. This promotion marks a significant step in Murillo’s career, which began in the Wastewater line of business.

Murillo’s journey in wastewater management demonstrates a strong commitment and a deep understanding of the field. Following his start in the Wastewater Line Maintenance program, Murillo, a Dona Ana Community College Water Technology Program graduate, transitioned to Jacob Hands Wastewater Treatment Operations gaining valuable experience in the intricacies of the plant processes. His dedication and expertise led to a promotion to Assistant Plant Manager in 2021, followed by another advancement to Plant Manager in 2023.
Since October of 2024, he has served as the Interim Deputy Director of Wastewater, demonstrating leadership and vision for the department. Throughout his tenure, Murillo has been actively involved in numerous capital improvement projects that have significantly benefited the efficiency and effectiveness of plant operations.
