Rachel O’Brien Breaks Own School Record in 1500m

The Heyfield, Australia, native has recorded a new program best in her last two competitions.

SAN FRANCISCO / STANFORD, Calif. – NM State returned to action for a pair of meets in the Golden State, competing in the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco, and the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif. In her second track & field meet with the Crimson & White, Rachel O’Brien broke the school record she set 14 days ago, while a smattering of Aggies tallied new personal bests.

Stanford Invitational | Stanford, Calif. 
 
Rachel O’Brien was the lone Aggie entrant in the 1500m at the Stanford Invitational. In the season-opening Willie Williams Classic, O’Brien broke the school record with a time of 4:21.07, and on Friday she showed out in a big way with another school record mark of 4:17.34.

Junior Khloi Bird tallied the best finish among the Crimson & White in the 5000m, blazing past her previous best with a time of 17:02.79, good for 31st out of 140 entrants. Jordan Torres posted the fastest time in section one, with Kayla O’Connell finishing with a time of 17:45.00. Murrie Dodge powered across the finish with a new personal best time of 18:35.55.
 
On the men’s side of the 5000m, Thomas Croshaw claimed the top spot among Aggies, crossing the line with a new personal best – and new school record – time of 14:04.93. In the second section, Andrew Gibby posted the fastest time with a mark of 14:19.66, good for 10th overall.
 
Orion Chavez completed his first 5000m with the Crimson & White, tallying a time of 14:55.46 to secure the top spot in section five, while fellow freshman Leo Valenzuela tallied a new personal best of 15:25.63.
 
On the day, Jonah Archer (15:14.39), Derick Castellanos (15:29.09), Gabriel Uranga (15:42.86) and Christian Barreto (16:05.94) posted personal bests on the day, while Angel Maese finished his first 5000m with NM State.
 
Nia Allison closed the Aggies’ day at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic, posting a new personal record of 4:30.21, good for fourth in her heat and 14th overall.
