The City of Las Cruces is partnering with the Spay Neuter Action Program of New Mexico to offer eligible dog and cat owners vouchers for free spay or neuter surgeries, rabies vaccinations and microchipping.

The free voucher program is sponsored by SNAP New Mexico and is based on household income. Pet owners who wish to check eligibility for the free vouchers are encouraged to call SNAP between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at (575) 524-9265.
 
In just one year, an unspayed female cat can give birth to 12 or more kittens and an unspayed female dog can give birth to 12 or more puppies. Within just a few years, fertile dogs and cats can produce multiple litters.

Unfortunately, many of those offspring end up in an animal shelter or dumped in unsafe areas.
