Listening to baseball on the radio is a century-old tradition of American sportsmanship. On August 5, 1921, Pittsburgh’s KDKA broadcaster Harold Arlin called the Phillies vs. Pirates game. The worry surrounding the radio broadcasting of baseball was that the games would be “too boring”. What was discovered was how listeners enjoyed the background competition that did not require their undivided attention. It might be argued that radio broadcasts of baseball games poured the foundation of what we now so casually call multitasking.

This President’s Day weekend, our broader community will have the opportunity to tune in to four games (and one softball game) hosted by our very own New Mexico State Aggies. The Aggies have a four day home stand against South Dakota State. Here is the radio broadcast schedule for local baseball (and softball), this week:

  • Friday, February 16 @ 4PM (99.5 Zia Country)
  • Saturday, February 17 @ 2PM (91.5 KRUX)
  • Sunday, February 18 @ 2PM (91.5 KRUX)
  • Monday, February 19 @ 4PM (99.5 Zia Country)

Aggies Softball wraps up the Troy Cox Invitational Tournament, facing off with North Dakota on Monday, February 19 (PRESIDENT’S DAY). The game is set to start at 3 pm, and will be broadcast on NMSU’s student-run station, KRUX (FM 91/5).
