NM State fell to Arizona 1-0 on Sept. 5, in Tucson, Arizona. This was the first loss in a one-goal match. The Aggies are now 4-2-1 with both their losses being to Power Four opponents.
Through 15 minutes of play, the Aggie defense held the Wildcats to just two shots with none on goal. However, the Aggies were unable to record a shot in the same time frame.
In the 19th minute, the Wildcats took the lead on a goal by Marley Chappel. In just four minutes of play, keeper Valerie Guha managed to record three saves on four shots holding the Wildcats to just one goal.
At the end of the first half, the Wildcats led the Aggies 1-0 while also leading them in shots (8), SOG (4) and fouls (4). The Aggies led the Wildcats in Saves (3) and corners (4). NM State recorded three shots, two shots on goal and two fouls in the first half.
In the 63rd minute, Senior Tati Jerman made her first appearance of the 2024 season.
With little action in the second half of the match, the Aggies fell by one in their final match against a Power Four opponent. The Wildcats led the Aggies in shots (13), SOG (6) and Corners. The Aggies led in saves with (5) and fouls with (7).
Mya Hammack, Jena Johannes, Brooke Schultz, Marlee Cavitt and Guha all played the full 90 minutes of the match. Loma McNeese played all but six minutes.
Ariana Ellson, McNeese, Shila Rasoul, Mya Gonzales and Janae Shaklee all recorded one shot on the night. McNeese, Ellison and Shaklee each had a shot on goal. Shaklee’s one-shot and one-shot on goal was the first of her career.
