Several Aggies rank among the best in Conference USA this season

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – After weeks of split competition, NM State reunites for the Sun City Classic, hosted by UTEP. The one-day meet, held at the Larry K. Durham Track at Kidd Field begins on Friday, April 11, Fans can follow along with the live results at this link.

The Starting Line
- The Aggies prepare to make their shortest trek of the season for the Sun City Classic in El Paso, Texas on Friday, April 11. The one-day meet is hosted by UTEP, with the women’s hammer throw kicking off Crimson & White action at 10:30 a.m.
- In El Paso, NM State will compete alongside programs such as Rice, New Mexico and host UTEP, among others.
- As a team, the Crimson & White will compete in 16 events: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 2000m Steeplechase, 4×100 relay, High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put, Discus, Hammer Throw, Javelin.

Despite not qualifying for the 2025 CUSA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Thomas Croshaw (14:04.93) and Andrew Gibby (14:19.66) hold the top two fastest times in the men’s 5000m among Conference USA student-athletes.

Fresh Faces
- Following the departure of a historic senior class, the Aggies welcome a multitude of new student-athletes, with a wealth of accolades ready to make their mark on the Crimson & White.
- After competing with the cross country team in the fall, Rachel O’Brien returns to the Aggies for outdoor competition.
- Sprinters and hurdlers making their first outdoor runs with the Aggies in 2025 include Julissa Daniels, Jaylah McDonnell, Sahara Tasker, Sara McKee and Marlee Cavitt.
- Ellie Breckenridge, Samonne Cauley, and Kylie Rubrecht have debuted their outdoor careers with NM State, while Bailey Beene now competes in the discus alongside the javelin toss.
Dual Sport Star
- Sophomore Marlee Cavitt is set to continue her track & field career with NM State after transferring from the University of Portland last summer. In one of the most unique situations in the nation, Cavitt is also a member of the NM State Soccer team, becoming a pivotal member of the backline defense, finishing third on the team in minutes played (1,575) in a debut season that saw the Aggies tally 10+ wins for the third consecutive season.
- Cavitt competes in short sprint events for the Aggies, posting indoor bests of 7.59 in the 60m dash and 24.39 in the 200m dash, while helping the 4×100 team record a mark of 44.89 in outdoor competition – the fifth-fastest in program history.

- Jhana Downie and Sierra Brewer highlighted the 100m dash for NM State, with Downie taking third overall with a wind-adjusted time of 11.50 (+3.9 m/s). Brewer recorded an all-conditions best in the event with a time of 11:59 (+3.2 m/s) to finish in fifth.
- Once again finding herself on the podium, Jhana Downie finished second in the 200m dash, recording a wind-adjusted time of 23.63 (+2.5 m/s). Sierra Brewer recorded her second top-ten finish on the afternoon, taking sixth with an all-conditions best of 24.13 (+2.5 m/s). Competing for the first time in the event, Mickaliliah Vassell posted a 12th-place finish with a final time of 24.59 (+2.3 m/s).
- In the 400m dash, Jhana Downie, proved herself once more, taking home the gold medal after crossing the line with a time of 53.75. This completed a three-podium afternoon for the senior from Sunrise, Fla.
- Over in Azusa, Calif., Jahnya Hill recorded a personal best in the 800m run, posting a time of 2:17.39.
